Matriarchal Storytelling
The Matriarchs Storytelling event is a two-day conference held at the University of Montana in collaboration with All Nations Health Center and the University of Montana. It celebrates the power of Indigenous matriarchs and the teachings they carry. Through story and film, the gathering uplifts matriarchal voices, honors cultural knowledge, and strengthens community by connecting us to the values at the heart of Indigenous life—love, balance, reciprocity, and leadership.
United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII)
Our BEK team recently returned from the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) in New York City, where we had the honor of representing the Blackfeet Nation on a global stage. Alongside Indigenous leaders from around the world, we shared an intervention highlighting how colonial-style governments continue to overlook traditional Indigenous voices, violating the principles of UNDRIP. Supported by Nia Tero and the Wayfinders Circle, our team also took part in interviews and prayer, proudly amplifying Nitsitapii perspectives in this vital international space.
Moccasin making class
Our 4-day Moccasin-Making and Beading Class, led by renowned Blackfeet craftsman Daniel Edwards, was designed for advanced learners interested in producing high-quality, traditional moccasins. Held in support of Indigenous entrepreneurship, the class focused on detailed techniques in beadwork and moccasin construction, offering participants the skills needed to meet the growing demand for moccasins within the community. More than just a class, this event aimed to empower participants to carry forward cultural knowledge while exploring opportunities to turn their craft into a sustainable business.
