BLACKFEET ECO KNOWLEDGE
Aawoohtakaaks Guardians - Creating a shield
The shield of guardianship of the Blackfoot territory
This project is a grassroots-driven initiative that seeks to train and empower environmental, cultural, and language shield keepers. These individuals will serve as interns responsible for monitoring environmental indicators of a healthy ecosystem and environment. The shield keepers will receive training in various comprehensive and culturally appropriate curricula to become effective environmental shield keepers who can protect and steward the environment, land, water, and animals in a sustainable and respectful manner, aligning with the values and practices of the Blackfeet Eco-Knowledge including the language. Proper training can empower the interns with the knowledge and skills needed to make informed decisions, advocate for sustainable practices, and contribute to the conservation and protection of the environment for the present and future generations.
